Paperback. Etat : Good. A small child when the round-ups of Jews in Latvia began, the author witnessed his father murdered in front of him, and soon found himself in Majdanek death camp, alone, separated from his family, and surrounded by strangers. A stirring, moving memoir of love and loss, terror and friendship, and the final, arduous return to the 'real' world. 160p. N.B. The product of a troubled mind, this book has been shown to be a totalfabrication. Mr. Wilkomirski is not who he claimed he was.

Hardcover. Etat : Very good. Etat de la jaquette : Very good. 155 pages. Frontis illustration. DJ is a half size wrapper. Signed by author. Signed bookplate on fep. Name of previous owner present. Binjamin Wilkomirski, real name Bruno Dössekker (born Bruno Grosjean in 1941), was a musician and writer who constructed an identity as a Holocaust survivor. His fictional 1995 memoir, published in English as Fragments: Memories of a Wartime Childhood, was debunked by Swiss journalist and writer Daniel Ganzfried in August 1998. The subsequent disclosure of Wilkomirski's fabrications sparked heated debate in the German and English-speaking world. Many critics argued that Fragments no longer had any literary value. The story presented was that when the round-ups of Jews in Poland began, Binjamin Wilkomirski was a small child. His father was killed in front of him, and he was separated from the rest of his family. At around the age of four, he found himself in Majdanek death camp, surrounded by strangers. In piercingly simple scenes, Wilkomirski relates the "fragments" of his recollections, so that the reader also witnesses a horrifying, bewildering world from child's-eye height. First American Edition [stated]. First printing [stated].
