Alan has presented the annual coverage of The Chelsea Flower Show for the BBC for 25 years. He was appointed a Member of the British Empire in 2000. In 2011 he interviewed Prince Philip for the Prince's 90th birthday celebrations, and has also interviewed The Prince of Wales, The Duke of Cambridge and other members of the royal family.
