Biographie de l'auteur :
Fyodor Dostoyevsky (1821–81) was educated in Moscow and at the School of Military Engineers in St. Petersburg, where he spent four years. In 1844, he resigned his commission in the army to devote himself to literature. In 1846, he published his first novel, which won immediate critical and popular success. Three years later, he was arrested for belonging to a socialist group and condemned to death, but at the last moment, his sentence was commuted to prison in Siberia. In 1859, he was granted full amnesty and allowed to return to St. Petersburg. In the fourteen years before his death, Dostoyevsky produced his greatest works, including Crime and Punishment, The Idiot, The Possessed, and The Brothers Karamazov.

Manuel Komroff, a book editor and critic, was the author of numerous novels, story collections, histories, and biographies, as well as the screenplay for the acclaimed Marlene Dietrich film The Scarlet Empress.

Sara Paretsky is the New York Times bestselling author of several novels featuring private eye V. I. Warshawski. She has won numerous awards, including the Diamond Dagger Lifetime Achievement Award from the British Crime Writers’ Association.
Présentation de l'éditeur :
The final masterpiece from the celebrated author of Crime and Punishment and The Idiot...

This extraordinary novel, Dostoyevsky’s last and greatest work, tells the dramatic story of four brothers—Dmitri, pleasure-seeking, impatient, unruly . . . Ivan, brilliant and morose . . . Alyosha, gentle, loving, honest . . . and the illegitimate Smerdyakov, sly, silent, cruel. Driven by intense passion, they become involved in the brutal murder of their own father, one of the most loathsome characters in all literature. Featuring the famous chapter, “The Grand Inquisitor,” Dostoyevsky’s final masterpiece is at once a complex character study, a riveting murder mystery, and a fascinating examination of man’s morality and the question of God’s existence.

Translated by Constance Garnett
Edited and with a Foreword by Manuel Komroff
and an Afterword by Sara Paretsky

Description du livre Taschenbuch. Etat : Sehr gut. 400 Seiten Fresh and clean copy in good condition. Frisches und sauberes Exemplar in gutem Zustand. "While Geoffrey Chaucer composed several magnificent works of poetry, his reputation as "the father of English literature" rests mainly on The Canterbury Tales, a group of stories told by assorted pilgrims en route to the shrine of Thomas Becket in Canterbury Cathedral. From the mirthful and bawdy to the profoundly moral, the tales, taken in their entirety, reflect not only the manners and mores of medieval England, but indeed, the full comic and tragic dimensions of the human condition. Considered the greatest collection of narrative poems in English literature, The Canterbury Tales was composed in the Middle English of Chaucer's day, possibly to be read aloud at the court of Richard II. However, their grandeur, humor, and relevance are timeless, as readers of this authoritative edition will discover." ISBN 9780451520906 Sprache: Englisch Gewicht in Gramm: 270.
